The Story Behind K Feel Goods

Growing up in Los Angeles and being around such a vibrant and fashion-rich culture is one of the main reasons I decided to start KFeelGoods. Although I never studied fashion in school, I grew up studying the fashion of those around me. I developed an early love for the artistry of design, and was continuously inspired by my well-dressed family members, especially my fashionista grandmother, Vena Jones. My grandmother was the biggest inspiration in my life, fashion and otherwise.

Born in 1926 in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica, my grandmother Vena Jones was a nurse, a gardener, and a traveler. She was also bold, intelligent, worldly, faithful in God, independent and always motivated. She is my biggest inspiration behind this brand. I was her youngest grandchild and only grandson from my mother, her only child. I grew up watching her tend to her garden where she would transport herself back to Jamaica by planting Caribbean fruit trees and flowers, creating the perfect tropical vibe. Seeing her fashion with colorful gardening outfits and hats definitely had an impression on me growing up and was the main inspiration behind my brand. With a natural gift for accentuating her most admiral features, my beautiful grandmother set the tone for what it means to be classy and elegant. That’s why I named my first product, the Vena bag, after her.

From visiting over 18 countries and learning so much about how other people live and express themselves, I realized the importance of identity, self-expression, and how those layers can change your perspective. Every day presents an opportunity to do something to make someone feel good. This concept really resonated with me and eventually led me to turn my passion into purpose. After the passing of my grandmother, I held onto some of her signature fashion pieces that reminded me of her unmatched skill and beauty. With her vintage blue bag, a collection of hand sewn quilts, patterned shirts, and pieces of her gold jewelry, I have refurbished my late Grandmother's personal belongings as a token of remembrance, exploration, and appreciation. While this was a devastating loss for my family and I, it was a pivotal moment that led me to curate a brand dedicated to self-expression and retro vintage style with a modern flare.

When it came to me creating this brand, I was trying to brainstorm different names and couldn't find one that fit. I started to think about what I wanted my brand to mean to people, and what fashion means to me. I landed on “Feel Goods” because fashion is all about a feeling for me whether it’s comfort, style, or impression from others. Feeling good is something that others can relate to as well. As individuals, many of us struggle with being happy in everyday life, feeling good about the moment we’re in, and appreciating what we currently have. The Feel Goods name is a constant reminder to just enjoy yourself, enjoy this moment, and enjoy this journey in life. Fashion is something that has aided, and even inspired me to feel good even when my spirits are low. Just having a nice new pair of shoes, or a unique jacket or shirt has always been an uplifter for me. That is what I want people to feel when they receive a product from me.

The takeaway I want my customers to get from KFeelGoods is to embody your individual essence and your personal look. Each collection is meticulously designed to create simple and versatile yet defiantly bold wearables that can be worn and styled as your own personal statement and your own work of art. Fashion for me can be many things: my calming, my spirit, and my joy. I want to create pieces that can help people express their own personal style. As a black owned small business, when I flourish, I can also give back to my own community. It's important to build wealth amongst my community due to the economic disparities that exist. My brand is an outlet for me to celebrate my black culture in my own way. It's so fulfilling to be a part of the current change in time and shine a light on the black businesses out there creating diversity in the market. Fashion isn’t just about what you wear, it’s about how you feel, express and explore life as an authentic, unapologetic version of you.

I hope through this blog you could feel the passion I have for all the pieces I create and the importance of uplifting black businesses. Thanks for reading!
